Approving the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Infrastructure Program application for Washington Tech SRTS improvements.

Body
WHEREAS, City Council Resolution RES16-1053 authorized the Department of Public Works to apply for federal funding through the 2016 Metropolitan Council Regional Solicitation Program and authorized commitment of 20 percent local match for any projects awarded federal funding; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul was awarded $816,000 in federal funding to support pedestrian infrastructure around Washington Technology Magnet School via the Safe Routes to School program for a project named “Washington Tech SRTS Improvements”; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is committed to providing local match of at least 20 percent of construction costs to the federal award for Washington Tech SRTS Improvements and has identified this project in the Department of Works Five Year Capital Plan; and
WHEREAS, the project, Washington Tech SRTS Improvements, is identified in the State of Minnesota State Transportation Improvement Program as State Project 164-591-003 ; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has opened a solicitation for a Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program for construction projects up to $300,000; and
WHEREAS, funds awarded through the Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program may be applied toward local match of federally-funded Safe Routes to School projects identified in the State of Minnesota State Transportation Improvement Program; and
WHEREAS, the Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Program does not require any additional local funding match beyond what is required by the federal funding; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works is preparing an application for $300,000 through the Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Funding Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Saint Paul agrees to act as sponsoring agency for the project identified as Washington Tech SRTS Improvements and has r...
