Authorizing Police Department to accept a grant in the amount of $750,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice for the Mental Health Resource Team Co-Responder Implementation grant.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has been awarded the Mental Health Resource Team Co-responder Implementation grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Mental Health Collaboration program; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant award is for $750,000 the grant term is from January 1, 2019 through September 30, 2021; and

 

WHEREAS, this grant program provides funding to improve responses and outcomes for individuals with mental illness and seeks to increase public safety by facilitating collaboration among the criminal justice, mental health and substance abuse treatment systems to increase access to mental health and other treatment services for individuals in the community with mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse; and

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Department in collaboration with Ramsey County and other partners, will use these grant funds to support the Mental Health Resource Team and the initiatives as set forth in the grant agreement; and

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Assistant Chief Kathleen Wuorinen to implement the attached agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
