Authorizing the Police Department to accept a grant in the amount of $240,044 from the U.S Department of Justice for the 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has been awarded the 2018 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG); and
WHEREAS, the department was awarded $240,044 for the grant term through September 30, 2021; and
WHEREAS, this grant provides funds to support all components of the criminal justice system, from multi-jurisdictional law enforcement, prosecution and court, prevention and education, corrections and community corrections, drug treatment and enforcement, planning evaluation and technology improvement, crime victim and witness, and mental health programs ;and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, serving as the fiscal agent for this award, will share the grant funds with one disparate jurisdiction, Ramsey County, and the jurisdiction’s allocation will be used for activities and projects that will provide meaningful and measureable outcomes consistent with the goals of the grant; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul will be entering into an Interlocal Agreement with Ramsey County for the purposes of the sub-granting of these funds; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Assistant Chief Kathleen Wuorinen to implement the attached agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice; and the Interlocal Agreement with Ramsey County as substantially set forth in the attached documents.
