Approving the Mayor’s appointment of Gy Vameng Chajili as an interim Commissioner to an interim term on the board of the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Chapter 228 Minnesota Laws 1977 (“Laws”) states that the Saint Paul Pubilc Housing Agency (“Agency”) Commissioners shall be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council; and

WHEREAS, the Laws state that the Agency shall consist of seven commissioners who shall be residents of the city, and that two of the commissioners shall be public housing tenants; and

WHEREAS, a vacancy was created in the seat designated for a resident of public family housing when Irina Rutz resigned as commissioner in June 2018 before the end of her term on September 1, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Gy Vameng Chajili, a resident of the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency property named Dunedin Terrace, has applied for appointment to the board of commissioners of the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency; and

WHEREAS, Gy Vameng Chajili was recently naturalized as a citizen of the United States, at which time he changed his name from Chee Chang, the name under which he originally applied for appointment; and

WHEREAS, Gy Vameng Chajili has been recommended for appointment by the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency board of commissioners and the City-Wide Resident Council; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Carter wishes to appoint Gy Vameng Chajili to the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency board of commissioners to the remainder of the current term ending on September 1, 2019, at which time he would be eligible for re-appointment to an additional full term; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council consents to the appointment of Gy Vameng Chajili to the remainder of a three- year term ending September 1, 2019 as a member of the Saint Paul Public Housing Agency board of commissioners.
