Title
Recognizing Parkway Little League volunteers Jon and Sheron Weber.
Body
Whereas, Parkway Little League has been an institution in Dayton’s Bluff on the East Side of Saint Paul since its first pitch on June 6, 1955, offering baseball to 250 children each year, giving them a safe place to be outside, make friends and to get exercise, and
Whereas, for the last 63 years, families have contributed their time and money to grow Parkway into a youth sports organization with few rivals in the metro area, and
Whereas, Parkway is entirely run by volunteers, which empowers parents to organize and work together for their children and the children in their neighborhood, and
Whereas, through these efforts families get to know each other better, kids get to know each other better and families do their best to build community and play some baseball, and
Whereas, Jon and Sheron Weber, two of Parkway’s most dedicated and committed board members, leaders and champions have recently retired from Parkway, and
Whereas, Jon and Sheron have spent more than 20 years as volunteers and organizers, dedicating their personal time to helping children and families, giving up countless weekends and holidays, working in the rain and the heat doing activities that included cutting grass, raking fields, playing catch, fixing bathrooms, planting flowers and setting an example for adults and children of what it means to be responsible community members;
Now therefore, be it resolved, in sincere recognition of their more than 20 years of dedicated service and with gratitude for their contributions to youth baseball on Saint Paul’s East Side which have made our community a better place, the Saint Paul City Council hereby honors Jon and Sheron Weber; and
Be it further resolved, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby proclaims Thursday, August 30, 2018 to be Jon and Sheron Weber Day in the City of Saint Paul
