Authorizing the Police Department to accept a donation of vests and helmets from Shield 616.
Body
WHEREAS, Shield 616, a 501C3 from Colorado Springs, Colorado would like to donate vests and helmets to the City of Saint Paul, Police Department (SPPD); and
WHEREAS, Shield 616 outfits local law enforcement with better protection against rifle and active shooter threats and seeks to improve officer safety and help break down barriers between officers and the community by building community relationships through donations and partnering donors with agencies to support them through the year; and
WHEREAS, thirteen sets of vests and helmets, with an estimated value of $52,000, will be donated to the SPPD SWAT team bringing the team’s equipment into compliance with current standards; and
WHEREAS, the donation will improve officer safety and help relationships through community-officer partnerships; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts this generous donation and extends its sincere thanks to Shield 616.
