Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, to accept funding from Polar Bears International to be used for hotel  and registration costs for Senior Zookeeper to facilitate at PBI Climate Alliance 2018 Training;  29 September - 6 October 2018 in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is a leading facility in conservation and education, as well as an active participant in the captive polar bear community; and

 

WHEREAS, Polar Bears International (PBI) is supported by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and has invited Como Park Zoo and Conservatory’s participation in the PBI Climate Alliance 2018 to take place in Churchill, Canada fom September 29 - October 6, 2018; and

 

WHEREAS, PBI is prepared to pay for hotel, registration, and lodging forComo Zoo and Conservatory staff to attend the training and participate by facilitating sessions on polar bear husbandry, training, and enrichmen,t at an estimated cost of $1700; and

 

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that  participation in the training will be a valuable opportunity for staff and the zoo to increase their knowledge of polar bear husbandry; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby accepts the funding for the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Zoo staff to attend the PBI Climate Alliance 2018 and thanks PBI for its generous gift.
