Approving a 2018 maximum property tax levy for the City of Saint Paul.

Body

WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 10 of the City Charter, Mayor Coleman presented to the City Council on August 15, 2017 the Mayor's proposed budget; and in accordance with City ordinance, Mayor Coleman presented to the City Council on August 16, 2017 the Library Agency's proposed budget with the combined Mayor's proposed budget and the Library Agency's proposed budget totaling $561,787,336 for operations and $55,128,000 for capital improvements; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor did recommend, as part of the comprehensive 2018 financing plan for the City of Saint Paul, that the net property tax levy payable in 2018 be $141,273,820 as detailed below:     

      Mayor's Recommended Tax Levy:                 

      City Levy for City Operations       107,317,615

      City Levy for Debt Service             14,009,268

      City Levy for Library Agency         17,985,237         

      Total Recommended:                  139,312,120       

      Levy for Port Authority                    1,961,700

      Net Levy                                     141,273,820  

      Levy for Port Authority                   (1,961,700)                 

      Net Levy for City Government      139,312,120                  

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, Section 275.065 Subdivision 1, the City Council, after considering the Mayor's recommendations, but absent public hearings on the Mayor's budget proposal, does hereby accept the budgets for fiscal year 2018, as proposed by the Mayor, as constituting the proposed budgets for the City of Saint Paul and the Saint Paul Library Agency; and be it
