Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, to accept funding from Polar Bears International to be used for hotel and transportation costs for Senior Zookeeper to present and moderate at European Polar Bear Training Workshop 2-5 October, 2017.

WHEREAS, the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is an active participant in the captive polar bear community; and
WHEREAS, Polar Bears International (PBI) is supported by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and has requested Como Park Zoo and Conservatory’s participation in the European Polar Bear Training Workshop 2017 in Doncaster, United Kingdom at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park; and
WHEREAS, PBI has offered to pay for flight, hotel, transportation, and lodging for staff to attend the workshop at an estimated cost of $1600; and
WHEREAS, participation in the Workshop will be a valuable opportunity for staff and the zoo to share and grow their knowledge of polar bear husbandry; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby accepts the funding for the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Zoo staff to attend the European Polar Bear Training Workshop 2017 and thanks PBI for its generous gift.
