Accepting the gift of travel and expenses from the Knight Foundation for City Councilmember Chris Tolbert and Saint Paul Public Library Director Jane Eastwood to travel to the 2017 Next Library conference June 10-14, 2017 in Aarhus, Denmark.

WHEREAS, the Next Library conference is being held in Aarhus, Denmark from June 10-14, 2017; and
WHEREAS, the Knight Foundation has expressed an interest in Saint Paul Public Library’s participation in conferences and meetings it is supporting, including Next Library, as a past philanthropic donor to library programs; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Public Library Director and Councilmember Chris Tolbert, who also serves as the Library Board’s chair, seek to gain insight and knowledge from international library leaders on the topics of the conference, including literacy, community engagement, democratic strategic partnerships, design thinking and emerging trends; and
WHEREAS, the Knight Foundation has offered to pay for the flight, transportation, hotel and meal accommodations to enable Director Eastwood and Councilmember Tolbert to participate in the meeting; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the City accepts the total gift for two participants of airfare/ground transportation/baggage at a cost not to exceed $5,234, hotel cost of $1,768 (allowing for variance in exchange rate), and meals not to exceed $440; and thanks the Knight Foundation for its generous gift.
