Proclaiming May 18, 2017 to be Mary Mackbee Day in the City of Saint Paul.

Whereas, Mary Mackbee, over the course of a distinguished 50 year career, changed the face of public education in Saint Paul Public Schools; and
Whereas, being the first female appointed as a high school assistant principal and the first African-American female appointed as high school principal; and
Whereas, she has mentored and coached hundreds of principals and assistant principals over her career, and is sought out be colleagues for her advice, support, and wisdom; and
Whereas, under her leadership over the last 23 years, Central High School has continued and elevated its 150 year tradition of academic, sports, and performing arts excellence; and
Whereas, her dedication to high expectations for all staff and students allows each to explore and reach for the highest learning opportunities possible regardless of race, creed, or socioeconomic status; and
Whereas, by her tireless example and generosity of her time, talent, and spirit, thousands of students, staff and parents have been cared for and spired to dedicate their very best to their families, careers and community; and
Now Therefore, Be it Resolved, that the Saint Paul City Council proclaim May 18th, 2017 to be Mary Mackbee day in the City of Saint Paul.
