Declaring Wednesday, May 17, 2017 Donna Novey Day in the city of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, while attending Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Donna Novey began teaching at the International Music Camp located on the North Dakota/Manitoba border; and
WHEREAS, upon graduation she continued her teaching career in Belcourt, North Dakota on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation for two years, followed by four years in Sheldon, North Dakota; and
WHEREAS,. Novey has served our Country by joining the 451st Army Band in 1987 through 2011, honorably retiring from the U. S. Army in 2014;
WHEREAS, in 1992 Novey applied for and was hired as the Band Director in Saint Paul at Cretin-Derham Hall High School; and
WHEREAS, throughout her two-and-half decades career at Cretin-Derham Hall (and still counting), Novey has influenced thousands of young band students, whom she affectively refers to as “Cherubs” and “Bandinos”; and
WHEREAS, her students respect toward her and their band camaraderie is plainly evident by the number of students who hang out in the band room prior to and after school, making band their second home and carrying with them band-related memories when they graduate; and
WHEREAS, Novey enjoys seeing the growth and improvements in her Cherubs and Bandinos that bring magical musical moments and
WHEREAS, this year marks Novey’s 25th year enriching the lives of students at Cretin-Derham Hall as the High School Band Director; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that Wednesday, May 17, 2017 be proclaimed as DONNA NOVEY DAY in the city of Saint Paul, Minnesota.
