Proclaiming April 30, 2017 as Lex-Ham Community Arts Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, the Lex-Ham Community Band has been providing opportunities for residents of Saint Paul of all ages to perform and enjoy concert band music for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, the Lex-Ham Community Band has partnered with area schools and colleges to encourage youth and adults of all ages to interact positively with one another by performing music together; and
WHEREAS, since 2011, the Lex-Ham Community Band has hosted the BandWidth Music Festival, bringing top-notch community bands from across Minnesota into Saint Paul for an afternoon of free family-friendly music; and
WHEREAS, the Lex-Ham Community Band has hosted master classes providing an opportunity for students and amateur musicians from the community to learn from elite musical performers and educators; and
WHEREAS, the Lex-Ham Community Band is only one of multiple programs that the Lex-Ham Community Arts organization sponsors to engage people from the community to actively participate in the arts; and
WHEREAS, on April 30, 2017 at the BandWidth Music Fest 2017, as part of its 25th anniversary celebration, the Lex-Ham Community Band will perform the world premiere of a piece for band by composer Tim Takach dedicated to Richard Norris, the first band director of the Lex-Ham Community Band and a long-time band director at Concordia College in Saint Paul; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the members of the Saint Paul City Council proclaim April 30, 2017 to be Lex-Ham Community Arts Day in the City of Saint Paul.
