Title
Authorizing the Police Department to accept the donation of an armored rescue vehicle (Humvee).
Body
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety has indicated that the Saint Paul Police Department may apply to receive a donation of an armored rescue vehicle (Humvee); and
WHEREAS, the vehicle is further described as a four-wheeled vehicle equipped with additional features and protections to safely transport officers and victims; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Department does not currently have in its fleet a similar vehicle capable of assisting rescue efforts;
WHEREAS, similar vehicles are used by police departments to rescue officers and members of the public to safety in high-risk situations, including situations involving hostage victims, barricaded subjects, and active shooters;
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Department recommends that the donation be accepted to use during unsafe situations where officers or members of the public may be injured or otherwise need help or rescue.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the Saint Paul Police Department to accept the donation of an armored rescue vehicle from the DLA Disposition Services, Law Enforcement Support Office, as administered by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
