WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul was invited to apply for a Minnesota Super Bowl Legacy Fund grant; and

WHEEREAS, the Minnesota Super Bowl Legacy Fund is the philanthropic initiative of the 2018 Super Bowl with a goal of investing in communities working toward solutions for healthy youth; and

WHEREAS, the Minnesota Super Bowl Legacy Fund of the Minnesota Community Foundation has approved a grant in the amount of $100,000 for the City of Saint Paul to build Kato courts; and

WHEREAS, communities notified of receipt of Super Bowl Legacy Grant funds were asked not to publicize the award until such time as a public announcement was made by the NFL; and

WHEREAS, the public announcement for Saint Paul’s receipt of this $100,000 grant designation occurred on February 21, 2017; and

WHEREAS, there is strong community support for adding Kato courts in Saint Paul’s Eastside and North End neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, the $100,000 grant funds have been received by the Department of Parks and Recreation for the purpose of building the Kato courts; and

WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept the allocated funds and amend the financing and spending budget for the Kato Court projects; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City if Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation, funds of $100,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2017 Capital Improvement Budget; now, therefore, be it
