Co-naming a portion of Plato Boulevard in honor of John Nasseff.

WHEREAS, John Nasseff was born in the City of Saint Paul in 1924 and has remained a devoted and steadfast resident of the city throughout his life; and,

WHEREAS, John grew up in the West Side Flats neighborhood and still feels a strong connection to the city’s West Side and the many landmarks in that neighborhood that have played a role in his life; and,

WHEREAS, John admirably served with the U.S. Army Engineers in the South Pacific during World War II, acting in such places as Peleliu, Guam, the Philippines and Okinawa; and,

WHEREAS, through his determination, daring, and drive, John worked his way up from delivering telegrams, pumping gas, selling newspapers, and working on the loading dock at West Publishing, to becoming an efficiency expert and the eventual vice president for engineering and facilities at West; and,

WHEREAS, John’s love of his city has been reflected by his philanthropic generosity to Saint Paul and to many causes that strengthen the community; and,

WHEREAS, John has been a major contributor to the health of Saint Paul and the region by providing significant gifts to the John Nasseff Heart Center, Nasseff Specialty Center, Nasseff Neuroscience Center, the Milton M. Hurwitz ExerCare Fitness Center, and Mayo Clinic; and,

WHEREAS, John’s generosity also reflects his strong Catholic faith, with meaningful gifts that have supported churches and catholic institutions such as St. Louis King of France, St. Agnes School; Little Sisters of the Poor Holy Family Residence, and St. Maron’s Maronite Catholic Church; and,

WHEREAS, John’s sponsorship of the Saint Paul Police and Fire departments has reinforced their ability to provide the highest quality service to Saint Paul residents; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to his Saint Paul roots, John has cultivated an interest in the broader world through his travels and philanthropy including the building a dental clinic in his mo...
