Approving and authorizing the City of Saint Paul to accept the sponsorship from the Twin Cities Jazz Festival for the Celebration of Construction of Palace Theatre.

WHEREAS, the renovation of the Palace Theatre into a music venue (Project) that will add to the overall vitality of the city’s downtown area is almost complete; and
WHEREAS, to celebrate this Project, the Twin Cities Jazz Festival with the support of the Knight Foundation and Summit Brewing, has offered to sponsor a music event on December 16, 2016 and will invite the construction workers, City staff and others who have made this Project possible; and
WHEREAS, this event will bring together citizens, developers, business leaders, planners, public officials and other real estate development and construction persons who are dedicated to constructing the highest quality projects; and
WHEREAS, there is a public purpose in having City staff attend this event insofar as the staff will be able to discuss and share with the attendees the best practices surrounding this Project and bring those ideas to their daily work experiences to benefit the City of Saint Paul and its citizens, and this Resolution complies with Section 41.03 of the City’s Administrative Code; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the City of Saint Paul’s City Council that:
1. Upon the recommendation of the Mayor, the City of Saint Paul accepts the gift of Twin Cities Jazz Festival to sponsor the December 16, 2016 music event at the Palace Theatre and directs that the admission tickets be given to City staff who have contributed significantly to the success of this Project.
2. The City of Saint Paul gives thanks to Twin Cities Jazz Festival for this generous gift.
3. The appropriate City staff are authorized and directed to take the necessary actions to implement this Resolution.
