Affirming the development by the CapitolRiver Council of a Downtown Street Team.
Body
WHEREAS, the CapitolRiver Council is a private, non-profit organization engaging residents, business owners and property owners in issues and projects in downtown St. Paul; and
WHEREAS, the CapitolRiver Council is invested in creating a welcoming, vibrant and safe downtown for visitors and residents alike; and
WHEREAS, the CapitolRiver Council is developing a Downtown Street Team, to consist of volunteers to be recruited primarily from downtown residents and businesses, who would assist with downtown hospitality in central business district streets and skyways, during downtown festivals or events; and
WHEREAS, the Downtown Street Team would be an additional set of eyes on the street and would be trained to report concerns to the Saint Paul Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is committed to the safety and vitality of downtown for its residents, visitors, and business community; and
WHEREAS, the Downtown Street Team has the support of key constituencies in Visit Saint Paul and the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, the Council’s participation in this initiative will help raise awareness and support for the effort and the vitality and safety of downtown Saint Paul; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby recognizes and supports the development of a Downtown Street Team and expresses its appreciation to the CapitolRiver Council for their work on the initiative; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council encourages downtown residents to volunteer to be part of the Downtown Street Team; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City further encourages all businesses and organizations interested in creating a welcoming, vibrant and safe downtown for visitors and residents to contribute to the Downtown Street Team effort by making a contribution to the CapitolRiver Council; and be it
