Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to donate the surplus exercise stations at Wilder Park to Rebuilding Together Twin Cities (RTTC) in as-is condition for no cost.
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation is renovating Wilder Park and will no longer need the exercise stations at that location; and
WHEREAS, Rebuilding Together Twin Cities (RTTC), a non-profit organization which assists low-income homeowners by improving the safety and health of their homes and revitalizing communities, will be volunteering at the site and dismantling the exercise equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation plans to dispose of the equipment once it has been dismantled, and RTTC has asked that the equipment be donated to them; and
WHEREAS, Saint Paul Administrative Code Section 2.02(G)(6)g.3 permits donation of surplus materials to a bona fide charitable educational, religious, or fraternal nonprofit organization, as a donation, upon a resolution of the council determining that the transfer is related to the function of government, serves a public purpose, and is for the benefit of the community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that transfer of exercise equipment which would otherwise be hauled away as garbage or recycling to a bona fide non-profit organization which can use the equipment in its mission to assist low-income homeowners satisfies the criteria for donation of surplus materials; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Department of Parks and Recreation is authorized to donate the surplus exercise stations at Wilder Park to RTTC in as-is condition for no cost.
