Authorizing the Police Department to accept Preliminary Breath Test Units from the State of Minnesota, Office of Traffic Safety.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department responded to the solicitation from the State of Minnesota, Office of Traffic Safety for Preliminary Breath Test Units (PBT); and
WHEREAS, the PBT’s are an evidential grade, handheld breath alcohol tester, providing a simple and accurate method of determining a subject’s breath alcohol concentration; and
WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota granted the Police Department twelve (12) PBT’s, with an estimated value of $625 each, to be used by police officers working traffic enforcement, specifically by those working the Toward Zero Death grant funded enforcement focusing on impaired driving violations; and
WHEREAS, the public purpose of the equipment is to assist officers to enforce driving violations, improving safety for the citizens and visitors in the City of Saint Paul; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council authorized the Police Department to accept the equipment from the State of Minnesota, Office of Traffic Safety with an estimated total value of $7,500.
