Authorizing the Police Department Commander and the Community Ambassadors Project Manager to attend the 2016 Cities United Convening conference.
Body
WHEREAS, Cities United is a national partnership to eliminate violence-related deaths of African American males based on a very simple but fundamental premise that African American men and boys matter and are assets to our nation; and
WHEREAS, Cities United is a national movement to equip mayors and local leaders with tools, practices, skills and resources needed to effectively eliminate the violence-related deaths of African American men and boys; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 Cities United Convening conference is scheduled from May 2-6, 2016 and the Saint Paul, Police Department will be attending along with Joel Franklin the Community Ambassadors Project Manager with an estimating travel expense for both trips to be $3,000; and
WHEREAS, the public purpose is to support the City’s efforts to pilot the youth in the community in the right direction; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the attendance and expenditure to this conference which the Mayor and Chief Thomas Smith believe to be of value and importance.
