Title
Pertaining to the provision of water pitchers and filters for those customers whose lead water service has been disturbed during construction.
Body
WHEREAS, Saint Paul Regional Water Services (“SPRWS”) has been routinely replacing the street portion of lead water services since the late 1980s as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements; and
WHEREAS, recent studies have shown that the levels of lead in drinking water may increase for a few weeks to several months following such a partial lead water service replacement; and
WHEREAS, SPRWS provides its customers with information on recommended maintenance practices following a partial lead water service replacement, which includes initial and ongoing flushing and cleaning of faucet aerators to minimize lead in the drinking water; and
WHEREAS, a point-of-use filtering device such as a water pitcher with filter, when used according to manufacturer recommendations, is effective in removing dissolved and particulate lead from water; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Board of Water Commissioners hereby authorizes staff to purchase and distribute water pitchers and filters sufficient for six months of normal household use to customers who have undergone a partial lead water service; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the provision of the water pitcher and filters shall be at no cost to such customers.
