Title

Authorizing the acceptance of a grant in the amount of $85,035 from the Minnesota Historical Society for the Digitizing Saint Paul City Directories project and amending the financing and spending plans of the Saint Paul Public Library Agency.

 

 

Body

 

WHEREAS,  the Saint Paul Public Library Agency has been awarded a grant in the amount of $85,035 from the Minnesota Historical Society for the" Digitizing Saint Paul City Directories" project; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant will fund the costs of professional services to do the digitalization and staff time to replace the Librarians working on the project; and

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Public Library Agency is currently working on a system-wide digitization plan that includes this project to make City Directories available in an automated format; and

 

WHEREAS,  the grant contract requires that the SPPLA indemnify the Minnesota Historical Society; and

 

WHEREAS,  the digitization will make materials more widely available to the public; and

 

WHEREAS,  the Library Board finds that there is a public purpose in the expenditure of money, which includes the promise of indemnification, because acceptance of the grant will allow more materials to be included in the digitalization project; and

 

WHEREAS, the financing and spending plans have not been established for the grant, and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to  Section 10.07.1 of the City Charter, does certify that there are funds in the amount of $85,035 available in excess of those estimated in the budget;  now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that  the Library Board authorizes the appropriate city official to  enter  into the attached grant agreement with the Minnesota Historical Society, and be it

 

FURTHER  RESOLVED, by the Library Board, upon the recommendation of the Mayor, that $85,035 is available for appropriation in the 2016 Budget, and said budget, as heretofore adopted is amended as outlined in the attached Financial Analysis.
