Authorizing the Police Department to accept a donation from the Minneapolis Police Department of firearms which are slated to be destroyed to be used in the Forensic Services Unit in their reference collection.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Minneapolis, Police Department has authorized the donation of approximately 162 firearms and a wood storage rack for long guns to the City of Saint Paul, Police Department Forensic Services Unit; and
WHEREAS, the Minneapolis Property Unit has slated these firearms to be disposed of and have estimated the value at $1,200 if disassembled and sold to a recycler and the storage box with an estimate value of $50; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department Forensic Services Unit will use the donated firearms and storage rack to build a firearm referencing collection used for casework, training, research and for court room demonstrations; and
WHEREAS, the public purpose of this donation is to provide additional equipment for improving the operations of the Forensic Services Unit; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts this generous donation and extends its sincere thanks to the City of Minneapolis, Police Department.
