Accepting a grant of $30,000 from the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation to be used to support the Saint Paul Fire EMS Academy.
Body
WHEREAS, the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has approved a grant in the amount of $30,000 to support the City of Saint Paul’s EMS Academy. This grant matches $30,000 already received from the Jay & Rose Phillips Family Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity would like to accept the grant/donation from The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and to establish 2015 financing and spending for these funds; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the of the Saint Paul Fire EMS Academy is to promote diversity in the emergency medical workforce in the Twin Cities, which in turn creates a higher quality of patient care for the City of Saint Paul’s residents, and provides a meaningful career pathway for minority and low-income youth residing in the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the entirety of this grant will go toward funding the EMS Academy, which includes but is not limited to maximizing relationships with partner organizations such as Community Action Partnership of Washington and Ramsey Counties and Ronald M. Hubbs Center for Adult Basic Education. Further, this grant will help better serve students by empowering them and creating strategies for post-graduation job supports and on-going professional development for graduates; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.01 of the City Charter, does certify that there are funds of $30,000 available for appropriation in excess of those estimated in the 2015 budget; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant and authorizes the appropriate city officials to execute any necessary grant agreements, and approves these changes to the 2015 budget.
