Pertaining to authorization to recognize the Imagine a Day Without Water events in order to bring public awareness to the value of water and the water delivery system and the need to invest in SPRWS infrastructure.
Body
WHEREAS, water sustains all life and its importance to the residents and many businesses in the Saint Paul Regional Water Services service area cannot be overstated; and
WHEREAS, it would be difficult to imagine a day without water to cover the most basic of our human needs; and
WHEREAS, SPRWS provides 45 million gallons of water a day on average to more than 420,000 residents of Saint Paul and the communities we serve; and
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Board of Water Commissioners and the staff of SPRWS to ensure through careful planning and wise investments the viability of the water treatment plant and the water delivery system for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, the Board has invested millions of dollars in the infrastructure of SPRWS and plans to invest $300 million over the next decade in bringing its infrastructure up to date; and
WHEREAS, for every one job created by the water industry another 3.68 jobs is added in the national economy, and for every $1 invested in infrastructure, the United States generates another $6 in returns on that investment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Board recognizes that water is essential to quality of life, environmental sustainability, and economic competitiveness; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board is dedicated to investing in our water system for the benefit of our residents, now and into the future, and acknowledges the importance of educating the public about the value of water through the Imagine a Day Without Water events and efforts.
