Authorizing City staff to apply for a Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Minnesota GreenCorps member.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul (the “City”) is committed to opportunities to make Saint Paul one of the most sustainable cities in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is accepting host site applications from local governments, school districts, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations interested in hosting Minnesota GreenCorps (MGC) AmeriCorps members; and
WHEREAS, Minnesota GreenCorps is a statewide program to help preserve and protect Minnesota’s environment while training a new generation of environmental professionals; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has successfully hosted numerous MGC members over past the past several years and is once again eligible to apply for MGC AmeriCorps members this year to assist City Staff in areas of green infrastructure, living green outreach, waste prevention and recycling, and air quality; and
WHEREAS, representatives from the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Parks and Recreation have met and identified an area of need within the City, specifically in urban forestry;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the Mayor’s Office and City of Saint Paul staff to apply to the Minnesota GreenCorps program for an eleven month MGC AmeriCorps member, and if approved, accept this member to assist with citywide urban forestry projects and outreach initiatives.
