Recognizing the bravery and valor of Dao Peter Yang, and expressing condolences to his family on behalf of the community.
 
Body
WHEREAS, on Sunday, February 8, 2015, a fire broke out in the 500 block of East Jessamine Avenue in the city's Payne-Phalen neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Dao Peter Yang along with his wife, five children, and mother were inside their residence; and,
 
WHEREAS, Dao Peter Yang, under darkness and in the midst of smoke and high speed flames, rescued his wife, four children, and his elderly mother;
 
WHEREAS, Dao Peter Yang further unselfishly put his own life on the line, sustaining level seven carbon monoxide in his bloodstream and requiring medical attention, while attempting six or seven times to rescue his four year old daughter, Chialia, but was not able to find her in the burning home; and,
WHEREAS, little Chialia was later rescued by the Saint Paul firefighters and pronounced dead of smoke inhalation; now,
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council does hereby express, on behalf of a grieving community, its deep and sincere condolences on the tragic passing of Chialia; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council officially recognizes the heroic act of bravery and distinguished valor performed by Dao Peter Yang and expresses its admiration for this husband, father, and son for saving so many lives that night.
