Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation's Division of Special Services to apply for a three year grant totaling $180,000 from the Saint Paul Foundation to support the Aquatics Programs with fee assistance, and if awarded, accept and enter into a grant agreement which includes indemnification language.
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation's Division of Special Services is requesting permission to apply for a three year grant that totals $180,000 from the Saint Paul Foundation to support the Aquatics Programs with fee assistance for participants; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds, if awarded, will support swim lessons with fee assistance for Saint Paul youth between the ages of five and nine years during the 2015, 2016 and 2017 swimming seasons; and
WHEREAS, the grant, if awarded, will require a contract with The Saint Paul Foundation in which the City will be required to indemnify the Saint Paul Foundation, the Board, its agents, and employees from any and all claims or causes of action arising from or relating in any way to the grant activities by the City or City's agents or employees; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Saint Paul finds that the expenditure of funds, which includes a promise of indemnification, for the purpose of receiving the grant and providing youth swim lessons with fee assistance has a public purpose; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul authorizes the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for and if awarded enter into the grant agreement with The Saint Paul Foundation to accept these funds.
