Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for funding to create a traveling display and other outreach materials about the natural and cultural history of the American elm in Saint Paul and, if successful, enter into an agreement providing indemnification for the Minnesota Historical Society.
 
Body
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Historical Society has a small grants program which is part of The Legacy Amendment's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is eligible to receive up to $10,000 in grant funds through the History Projects - Interpretive Programs and Public Education project category; and
WHEREAS, it is the intention of Parks and Recreation to submit a 2015 proposal to create a Celebrating the American Elm traveling display and other materials to be used for tree care education and outreach;and
WHEREAS, if funded, the grant agreement will require that the grantee indemnify the State, its agents and employees from any claims or causes of action arising from performance of the grant agreement; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds that accepting the grant funds will fulfill a public purpose; and
WHEREAS, the expenditure of funds, which includes the promise of indemnification, for such a purpose will facilitate and enable it to take place, now, therefore, be it;
RESOLVED, that designated Parks and Recreation staff are hereby authorized to seek such funding on behalf of the City and, if successful, the appropriate city authorities are authorized to enter into an agreement with the Minnesota Historical Society, which includes an indemnification clause, to accept the funds on behalf of the City.
