Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, to enter into an agreement with the Saint Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee to coordinate installation of a memorial within the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory's Japanese Garden in honor of Mr. Masami Matsuda, at an estimated value of $3,100.00.

Body

WHEREAS, Mr. Masami Matsuda, Japanese Landscape Designer, designed the Japanese Garden located at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in 1977;and

WHEREAS,  the St. Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee wishes to honor Mr. Matsuda with a stone memorial; and

WHEREAS, the stone will be personally selected by St. Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee members who worked most closely with Mr. Matsuda; and

WHEREAS, the "unnamed" stone memorial will be set into its final position by St. Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee members and staff from the Bolander & Sons Company; and

WHEREAS, the unveiling would coincide with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the creation of the St. Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee which is scheduled for August 23, 2015; and

WHEREAS, the labor, material costs, delivery and installation will be funded by the St. Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee and Bolander and Sons Company; and

WHEREAS, the St. Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee requests that the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory assist in coordination and in-kind support of the garden work; and

WHEREAS, The St. Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee also requests acknowledgement of its donation in all appropriate media and that the story of this unnamed stone become a part of the garden's history and garden volunteer's educational training; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Department of Parks and Recreation is authorized to provide coordiantion and in-kind support for this project; and be it
