Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept a grant from the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) in the amount of $1,000 to support the Natural Resources volunteer program.
Body
WHEREAS, The Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) is a Minnesota non-profit, 501(c)(3), organization whose mission is to inspire excellence in the leadership of volunteers to impact communities; and
WHEREAS, through an existing partnership with MAVA, the Department of Parks and Recreation was extended an opportunity to submit a grant proposal; and
WHEREAS, receipt of a grant would include $1,000 in funding to work with MAVA on a pilot project focused on developing strategies to respond to the trend of volunteers committing to shorter-term volunteering; and
WHEREAS, receipt of a grant would allow the City to enhance the Saint Paul Natural Resources volunteer program, to develop innovative training opportunities and methods for shorter-term volunteers, increasing accessibility for existing and new volunteers; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation requests permission to apply for $1,000 in funding from MAVA to support volunteer programs serving residents; regional individuals; and corporate, nonprofit and civic partners who complete restoration, conservation, beautification and educational projects in Saint Paul regional parks; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes designated Parks and Recreation staff to apply for this grant funding with the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration, and to enter into any agreement necessary to accept such funds if awarded.
