Title
Authorizing the Police Department to accept a grant in the amount of $266,170 from the United States Department of Justice for the 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has been awarded the 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) (Attachment A) from the US Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs; and
WHEREAS, this grant provides funds to support all components of the criminal justice system, from multi-jurisdictional drug and gang task forces to crime prevention and domestic violence programs, courts, corrections, treatment and justice information sharing initiatives; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, serving as the fiscal agent for this award, will share the grant funds with one disparate jurisdiction within Ramsey County; and
WHEREAS, each jurisdiction's allocation will be used for activities and projects that will provide meaningful and measurable outcomes consistent with the goals of the grant;
WHEREAS, a 2014 financing and spending plan needs to be established for these funds; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $50,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2014 budget; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor recommends that the following addition be made to the 2014 budget; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Chief Thomas Smith to implement the attached agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice; and
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council approves these changes to the 2014 budget.
