Accepting $100,000 in grant funds from Saint Paul Children's Collaborative awarded to the Department of Parks and Recreation to support youth in Right Track jobs, and amending the 2014 adopted budget accordingly.
Body
WHEREAS, the Right Track Youth Employment program provides job exploration and skills building opportunities for Saint Paul Youth; and
WHEREAS, youth employment experiences connect the skills and interests of young people with future employers; and
WHEREAS, the City's Right Track Program provides important first work experiences for Saint Paul youth; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation was awarded $100,000 in grant funds from the Saint Paul Children's Collaborative to support an expansion of its Right Track youth employment efforts; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation wishes to accept this funding and amend the 2014 adopted budget to reflect the resulting increase in spending; and
WHEREAS, the funds available from the Saint Paul Children's Collaborative allowed for expansion of the YJ1 (first jobs) program to include 510 employment opportunities for young people within city departments and 26 community organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.01 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation, funds of $100,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2014 budget; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul authorizes acceptance of the grant funds and approves these amendments to the 2014 budget.
