WHEREAS, the song of the year was, "The Days of Wine and Roses" by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer, but 1964 was actually a time of turmoil and profound events: Three Civil Rights workers were murdered in Mississippi, China detonated its first atomic bomb, Russian Premier Khrushchev was deposed, the Civil Rights Act was passed in the United States, and Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. received the Nobel Peace Prize; and,
 
WHEREAS, it was into this world that the 632 members of Saint Paul Central's Class of 1964, the largest graduating class ever at Central High School, launched into adulthood in order to impact this world; and,
 
WHEREAS, 50 years later, the Saint Paul Central's Class of 1964 will now be reminiscing about their achievements and celebrating their 50th reunion this weekend; now,
 
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Saturday, August 16, 2014 be forever known in Minnesota's Capital City as Saint Paul Central High School Class of 1964 Day.
