Authorizing the renaming of the City-owned facility located at 1978 Ford Parkway, housing both the Highland Park Library and the Hillcrest Recreation Center, to "Highland Park Community Center."
Body
WHEREAS, the Hillcrest Recreation Center and the Highland Park Library are located in a single facility and the building has recently been remodeled and updated; and
WHEREAS, both the Saint Paul Public Library Agency and the Department of Parks and Recreation would like to select a single name that identifies the joint facility; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department has naming guidelines for its facilities, and the name "Highland Park Community Center" fits within those guidelines and has been approved the by the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Public Library Agency supports the selection of the name; and
 
WHEREAS, the SPPLA runs and manages the library portion of the facility, but the building is still owned by the City; and
WHEREAS, the selection of a single name for the facility will make it possible to install signage and identify both the library and recreation center on City maps and location reference materials without confusion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the facility located at 1978 Ford Parkway containing both the Highland Park Library and the Hillcrest Recreation Center to be named the "Highland Park Community Center".
 
FURTHER RESOLVED,  that both the library and the recreation center will hereafter be known by that name.
