Title
Affirming and extending a local emergency related to the summer flooding of 2014.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has sustained severe losses of a major proportion, brought on by storms and subsequent flooding starting on the date of June 11, 2014; and
WHEREAS, the Summer Floods of 2014 have impacted the population of the City of Saint Paul; and,
WHEREAS, the Summer Floods of 2014 are causing the City of Saint Paul to undertake Emergency Protective Measures in order to protect human life, and property within the City of Saint Paul; and,
WHEREAS, the Mayor of Saint Paul, Christopher B Coleman, has declared a Local Emergency effective Monday, June 23, 2014, due to escalating conditions and in response to a flood warning for the City of Saint Paul, issued by the National Weather Service; and,
WHEREAS, the Mayor of Saint Paul, Christopher B Coleman, requests the City Council of the City of Saint Paul to affirm and extend the June 23, 2014 Declaration of Emergency for the City of Saint Paul for the Summer Floods 2014;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saint Paul affirms the Declaration of Local Emergency issued June 23, 2014 by the Mayor of the city; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the City Council finds that a Local Emergency does continue to exist in the City of Saint Paul, as a result of the Summer Floods of 2014 and extends the Declaration of Emergency for a period not to exceed 30 days from the date of passage, June 25, 2014.
