Designating May 28, 2014, as John Hershey Day in the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota.

WHEREAS, John is retiring from his position as Neighborhood Liaison at the University of Saint Thomas after 16 years; and
WHEREAS, John has always been a consummate professional and true champion for positive neighborhood relations even when that was a difficult task; and
WHEREAS, John has ably guided the West Summit Neighborhood Advisory Committee since its inception in 2004, and its work to improve life for homeowners and students in the neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, being a resident of the neighborhood abutting St. Thomas, John has been uniquely able to empathize with neighbors with whom he has worked to improve campus/community relations; and
WHEREAS, for the last 16 years John has truly had the pulse of the neighborhood around St. Thomas and has patiently and effectively navigated through many difficult situations; and
WHEREAS, John has been known to pick up litter in the neighborhood from student parties in his personal time on weekends; and
WHEREAS, John has attended countless public meetings in his tenure at the University of St. Thomas and is hereby excused from any future public meetings as long as he uses the time with pursuits such as fishing or writing; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Wednesday, May 28, be designated John Hershey Day in the City of Saint Paul with all the rights and privileges that entails; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby thanks John for his years of service to the Merriam Park and Macalester Groveland neighborhoods, and the City as a whole.
