Proclaiming Sunday, May 18, 2014 as Jerry and Jana Kyser Day in the City of St. Paul in recognition of the work they have done and continue to do on behalf of our World War II heroes.

Body
Whereas, World War II veterans waited over 60 years for a memorial that recognized their service, accomplishments, and sacrifice; and,

Whereas, the National Honor Flight Network was created to demonstrate sincere and abiding thanks to the heroes/veterans of World War II by providing a free trip for them to tour the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. for those who have never been there before; and,

Whereas, Jerry and Jana Kyser, children of WWII vets themselves, were asked to create a Twin Cities Chapter in 2008 - which is sponsored by the Minnesota Vietnam Veterans Charity - to specifically honor our Minnesota heroes; and,

Whereas, through Jerry and Jana Kyser's herculean efforts, the Twin Cities Chapter of Honor Flight International has raised more than $800,000 and sent more than 1100 World War II veterans and 650 guardians to our nation's capital to accept the thanks and admiration from a grateful nation that many never experienced upon their homecoming; now,

Therefore be it resolved, that the Saint Paul City Council does hereby recognize Jerry and Jana Kyser for all the work they have done and continue to do on behalf of our World War II heroes by proclaiming Sunday, May 18, 2014 to be forever known in the City of Saint Paul as Jerry and Jana Kyser Day.
