Accepting the designation of Saint Paul as a Minnesota Legacy Destination City.
 
Body
WHEREAS, The State of Minnesota passed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment in 2008; and
WHEREAS, The Legacy Amendment created four funds to improve our state's land, water, parks, and arts which continue until 2034; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Saint Paul have benefited greatly from the wide variety of outdoor, water, parks and arts projects funded by the Legacy Amendment, such as:
·      The Metropolitan Area Watershed Outlet Monitoring Program 2013-2014 which provides condition monitoring and problem investigation monitoring for a number of waterways including parts of the Mississippi River and the Eagle Creek, Riley Creek, and Valley Creek; and
·      The Metro Big Rivers Phase 4 Project that will protect 450 acres, restore 32 acres and enhance 99 acres of priority wildlife habitat within the big rivers corridors in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Urbanizing Area; and
·      support for the great arts organizations serving the citizens of Saint Paul such as the Bedlam, History, Penumbra and Steppingstone Theatres, the Ordway Center for Performing Arts, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, American Composers Forum, Springboard for the Arts and many others; and
WHEREAS, through the Legacy Amendment, Saint Paul and surrounding areas are benefiting from this investment and the City stands as one of Minnesota's great Legacy Destinations;
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, The City of Saint Paul hereby accepts the honor of being named a Legacy Destination City by Paul Austin with Conservation Minnesota and Sheila Smith with Minnesota Citizens for the Arts.
