Approving a $50 application fee for the 2014 Firefighter examination.

WHEREAS, in May 2014, the City of Saint Paul - Office of Human Resources will begin accepting applications for the Firefighter examination,
WHEREAS, based on the number of applicants of previous Firefighter examinations, it is anticipated that the number of applicants applying to take the 2014 Firefighter examination will be very high,
WHEREAS, the costs to establish, administer, and score the examination increase proportionately in relation to the number of applicants,
WHEREAS, to offset the high costs associated with administration of the Firefighter examination, the Office of Human Resources will require each applicant to pay a $50.00 application fee. An economic hardship waiver will be available upon filing a request for review by the Office of Human Resources for those applicants who are financially unable to pay the application fee.
RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby approves the $50.00 application fee to cover the costs associated with the 2014 Firefighter examination and approves establishment of economic hardship waivers based upon criteria to be determined by the Director of Human Resources.
