Authorizing the Department of Planning and Economic Development to accept a grant of $150,000 from the Saint Paul Foundation to fund the Transit-Oriented Development Manager position.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has adopted a strategy and vision for the development of the Central Corridor:  "The Central Corridor will build on its assets to become a place that has stronger businesses, more vibrant neighborhoods, and more beautiful urban places. Along University Avenue and in the downtown, the Corridor will invite residents, shoppers, employees and visitors to linger on safe, pedestrian friendly attractive, tree-lined boulevards; establish a home and sense of community in stable and diverse neighborhoods; and work and invest in an area that provides a range of employment and economic opportunities"; and
WHEREAS, Saint Paul Planning and Economic Development has hired a Transit-Oriented Development Manager to aggressively pursue transit oriented development, with an emphasis on job growth and economic development, along the Green Line and future Saint Paul transitways; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Foundation wishes to award $150,000 to the City of Saint Paul to finance the position of Transit-Oriented Development Manager to work with community partners, private sector investors, lenders and developers, city staff, elected officials, and other partners to implement transit oriented development; and
WHEREAS, this grant is made on behalf of the Central Corridor Funders Collaborative, comprised of thirteen funders working with others to develop stable, healthy, walkable, diverse neighborhoods near the central corridor; and
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the Department of Planning and Economic Development to accept this grant in the amount of $150,000 to fund the Transit Oriented Development Manager position.
