Declaring Wednesday, December 11, 2013 as Mark Hughes' Disability Viewpoints Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, Mark Hughes created the cable television program "Disability Viewpoints" and has produced and starred on the show, which has run on CTV North Suburbs three days a week, for over 15 years; and
WHEREAS, the show is the only television show featuring current news and information specifically by, about, and for the disability community in the Twin Cities; and
WHEREAS, Mark has served on the Saint Paul Mayor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities since 1996; and
WHEREAS, Mark has served on the State of Minnesota Council on Disabilities since 2001; and
WHEREAS, the volunteer work Mark Hughes has done with "Disability Viewpoints" comes in addition to his work running his family's construction business in Saint Paul, along with his sister; and
WHEREAS, most importantly, the national organization Alliance for Community Media honored Mark's show with its "Hometown Media Award" in 2013. ACM also awarded his show this same honor in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012; and
WHEREAS, Hometown Media Awards recognize the best, most creative programs nation-wide that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, and challenge conventional television. RESOLVED, that Wednesday, December 11, 2013 is declared Mark Hughes' Disability Viewpoints Day in the City of Saint Paul.
