Declaring October 19, 2013 Minnesota RollerGirls Day in honor of the start of their 10th season in Saint Paul.
Body
WHEREAS, the Minnesota RollerGirls were one of the first modern roller derby leagues; and,
WHEREAS, the RollerGirls have called the Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium home for nine of their ten seasons; and,
WHEREAS, the RollerGirls have played in the WFTDA World Championships four of the eight years of its existence; and,
WHEREAS, the organization partners with Saint Paul businesses to bring new and increased business to the City of Saint Paul; and,
WHEREAS, the RollerGirls have donated over $73,000 to charities since their inception; and,
WHEREAS, the RollerGirls partnered with the Ann Bancroft Foundation to help fund grants providing Minnesota girls with needed sports equipment; and,
WHEREAS, every month, the RollerGirls bring thousands of screaming fans to downtown Saint Paul; and,
WHEREAS, the RollerGirls act as positive, strong role models for Minnesota girls and women;and,
WHEREAS, October 19th will be the first bout of the Minnesota RollerGirls' 10th season;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that October 19, 2013 be declared Minnesota RollerGirls Day.
