Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to submit a Redevelopment Grant Application through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), Brownfields and Redevelopment Office, for the Lowertown Ballpark Project, and to enter into such agreements as are necessary to implement the project.
Body
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is providing grants through their Brownfields and Redevelopment Office for projects that require funding assistance with complex and costly redevelopment projects; and
WHEREAS, the Redevelopment program was established by the 1998 legislature to assist with complex and costly redevelopment projects that might not occur without public financial assistance; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes ยงยง 116J.571 - 116J.575, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has the authority to award grants to assist development authorities with eligible redevelopment costs; and
WHEREAS, the Redevelopment Grant Program applies only to sites where there was a past use and the need to "recycle" the land for a more productive use exists; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking approval to submit a grant application requesting up to $1.5M for the Lowertown Ballpark project through this program; and
WHEREAS, the sources and amounts of the local match identified in the application are committed to the project identified; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Department of Parks and Recreation is hereby authorized to apply for a Redevelopment Grant through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, Brownfields and Redevelopment Office, for use in the Lowertown Ballpark Project, and to enter into such agreements as are necessary to implement the project.
