Authorizing the Police Department to enter into a Joint Powers Agreement with the Metropolitan Transit Police Department.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul Police Department (SPPD) wishes to enter into a Joint Powers Agreement with the Metropolitan Transit Police Department (MTPD), and
WHEREAS, in entering into this agreement it acknowledges and provides dual authority for the MTPD to exercise general law enforcement activities within the City of Saint Paul for their statutory jurisdiction pursuant to Minn. Stat. ยง473.407; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Statutes section 473.407, subd. 1 authorizes the MTPD to "exercise general law enforcement agency authority to assist any law enforcement agency in implementing or carrying out law enforcement activities, programs, or initiatives upon request from, or under any agreement with the SPPD; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the council approves entering into and authorizes Chief Thomas Smith to implement the attached agreement with the Metropolitan Transit Police Department.
