Title
Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept grant proceeds of $25,000 from Second Harvest Heartland, and to establish an additional 2013 budget in the Grant & Aid Fund in this amount, to reflect the corresponding spending budget made available for providing summer food service at Saint Paul recreation sites.  
 
Body
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation wishes to continue and grow its Summer Food Service Program to feed hungry children throughout Saint Paul at the City's recreation centers and roaming recreation site; and
 
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation's goal for 2013 is to serve 100,000 meals; and
 
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation has been approved to receive a $25,000 grant from the Vikings Childrens Fund, through Second Harvest Heartland, to support, strengthen and expand the summer food service program in 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation is seeking permission to accept this grant and establish a 2013 revenue and spending budget (860-33162) in the Parks and Recreation Grant & Aid Fund in this amount; and
 
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation will use the money to enhance programming, purchase needed equipment and pay staff to assist in meal service at sites in Saint Paul; and
 
WHREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $25,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2013 Grant & Aid Budget;
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon recommendation of the Mayor, that Parks and Recreation is authorized to accept this grant, and that $25,000 is available for appropriation in the 2013 Grant & Aid Fund.
