Designating June 5, 2013 as Bonnie Roell Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, Bonnie Roell opened Bonnie's Café on University Avenue nearly 35 years ago in June 1978; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Roell strived to hire staff from all walks of life, making an effort to give jobs to those in need of a second chance; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Roell provided a neighborhood gathering place and has served multiple generations of customers with a smile and the promise that "nobody leaves hungry"; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie died on Wednesday, May 15, of pancreatic cancer, and friends and family gathered on Tuesday, May 21, to honor her memory with stories and good food; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Saint Paul City Council pays tribute to the entrepreneurship and character of Bonnie and her creation of a lasting neighborhood diner, Bonnie's Café; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOVED, that the Council expresses its deepest condolences to the friends and family of Bonnie Roell; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Council proclaims Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Bonnie Roell Day in the City of Saint Paul.
