Approving the name Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary for City-owned parkland between Maryland Avenue and Cayuga Street, west of Interstate 35E and east of Agate Street.
 
Body
WHEREAS, approximately 30 acres of land has been acquired by the City to be developed into a park located within Ward 5, District 6, between Maryland Avenue and Cayuga Street, west of Interstate 35E and east of Agate Street; and
WHEREAS, the interim name for the site has been "Trillium" and refers to the development corporation that once owned the property; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to recognize the property with a new name that better reflects its use as parkland, and which name can be posted on its identity signage and used on City maps and location reference materials; and
WHEREAS, the District 6 Planning Council has reviewed names according to the criteria set forth in the Parks Commission naming policy; and
WHEREAS, the District 6 Planning Council has recommended the selection of the name, Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary, as the name of the new park to reflect both the historic and geographic character of the land.  It is located in Trout Brook Valley and Trout Brook is a stream that once ran from Lake McCarron to the river; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Commission endorsed the proposal to name the new park Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary at its April 10, 2013 meeting; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council does hereby name the new park, between Maryland Avenue and Cayuga Street, west of Interstate 35E and east of Agate Street, as the "Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary."
