Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept the new initiative designation and accompanying financial award of $1,000 from Minnesota Recreation & Park Foundation, and to sign a letter containing indemnification language.

WHEREAS, Minnesota Recreation & Park Foundation has chosen the City of Saint Paul, Department of Parks and Recreation's "Library After Dark" program as a recipient of a $1,000 New Initiative Grant; and
WHEREAS, "Library After Dark" is an innovative program which engages youth in activities at the Arlington and Rice Street Libraries after the libraries close to the general public; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation and Library staff provide skilled youth workers to support the program; and
WHEREAS, as a condition of accepting the grant money, the Minnesota Recreation & Park Foundation has requested that the City indemnify it from any claims arising from the grant-sponsored program; and
WHEREAS, promise of such indemnification will enable the Parks and Library Departments to support the Library After Dark program and reach additional Saint Paul teens, and the Foundation's funding of the program would not create any actual liability, thus making the risk of offering indemnification minimal; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept the new initiative designation and accompanying financial award of $1,000.00 and sign the attached letter, which contains indemnification language.
